Fueling Your Best

Personal Fueling & RED-S Journey -From the Owner:
Erin Smucker, MS, RD, LDN

My career began with the desire to understand how our bodies utilize food and nutrition. I have always been active and always enjoyed food and eating. I watched family members suffer from eating poorly and developing comorbidities. Witnessing this, drove my desire to understand how to prevent chronic disease utilizing food and nutrition. It's an honor to help clients steward their physical health so they have the energy and vitality to fulfill their own callings.

Let me be the first to tell you that fueling well is a vital component of feeling well in addition to moving and strengthening your body. If able, implementing these habits will allow you to perform better in all areas of life whether you're a high school athlete, mom of four or in your second half of life and wishing to improve your body composition or overall health.

I have had my fair share of under-fueling both unknowingly and knowingly and it always immensely and negatively impacted my performance.

From when I was a teenager following what I read in Teen Vogue or adopt what I saw in the school cafeteria amongst peers to forgetting to pack enough food for me to eat when planning outings with my kids now - fuel can so easily be miscalculated especially if you're an active individual or when life throws you a curve-ball.

Holistic & Trauma-Informed Care

At our practice, we prioritize holistic and trauma-informed care, understanding that every individual's experience with nutrition is unique. Having been a patient who has received - for lack of better words - bad nutrition guidance, I recognize the impact of receiving care that lacks sensitivity and disregards the nuance in nutrition and metabolic science. We believe that nutrition-related challenges require tailored, expert guidance rather than one-size-fits-all advice like "cut out carbs." Our goal is to step into each patient's world, honoring their lived experiences, and helping them develop a lifelong, healthy relationship with food and we hope that all providers wish to have more knowledge about how to do this and when to refer out to an RDN.

Emotional and spiritual health go hand in hand with the importance of fueling well and getting stronger. At times, these areas need addressed before behavioral change in the food and nutrition space can happen and we refer out to other therapies and providers as needed to best support our clients.

Motherhood & Pediatric Allergy Journey

My second child developed Food protein induced allergic proctocolitis (FPIAP), more commonly referred to as CMA or cow's milk allergy while I was breastfeeding. I personally felt the gap of knowledge and resources there are for parents of little ones who develop this and am excited to announce I am a 2025-2026 graduate of the FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education) Pediatric Allergy Training Course that improved my knowledge base so that I can better serve parents in the postpartum season. Fueling yourself and your little one can be overly challenging and stressful whether you continue your breastfeeding journey or shift gears and I want to come alongside you to help!
